Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the prices for sessions?

Answer: Prices can be found on our ‘pricing’ page. You may choose to pay monthly or weekly 72 hours prior to the session commencing.

2. Is TutorBEE only for children that are struggling?

Answer: It is often a misconception that children should only have a tutor if they find a subject hard. Tutoring is for every child regardless of their ability and in the long run, your child will be able to understand more advanced material because their basics are strong.

3. How long is my child committed to studying with TutorBEE?

Answer: TutorBEE can be a short-term or long-term study programme. Please discuss this with your tutor at the introduction session.

4. What if my own Maths and English skills aren’t great, am I expected to help my child outside of tutoring?

Answer: At TutorBEE, there isn't a need for parents to teach anything at home. Every question and every worksheet builds on the one before. Your role is, therefore, to support and encourage your child and ensure they complete the work set. You will be provided with answer books to help you mark your child's work when necessary. However, this won’t be every session, often times we work through answers in the next session.

5. We do not have a desk at home, does this matter?

Answer: Nope, our tutors can tutor anywhere! we are here to adjust to the child’s environment and not to create a classroom-like environment.

6. My child is hyperactive and finds it hard to sit still. Does this matter?

Answer: We have worked with various children of different personality types and we always adjust our approach accordingly. No two children are the same and therefore, no two children interact and learn in the same way.

7. Do you still tutor during the school holidays?

Answer: We tutor during half-term breaks if required. Some children are busy with activities, holidays, and seeing family and choose to pause during half term, whilst others continue.

However, we do not tutor during Christmas break and Summer Holidays. Everyone needs a break, even tutors!

8. How does TutorBEE differ from tuition or classroom learning?

Answer: TutorBEE offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, TutorBEE empowers students to learn for themselves and improve their confidence.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each TutorBEE student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities and in their own environment.

9. How long are the sessions?

Answer: Lessons are 45 minutes long. However, there are circumstances where sessions need to be shorter. This is typical with children with SEN who may find it harder to concentrate and focus for long periods of time. In this situation, a 30-minute lesson is more appropriate. This session will be tailored and condensed but the same content will be delivered in a more manageable way for your child.

10. Does tutoring guarantee a pass?

Answer: It is important to recognise that tutoring, while beneficial, does not guarantee a pass or guarantee success in any subject. There are several reasons for this:

  1. Individual Factors: A tutor can provide guidance, support, and additional explanations, but ultimately, it is up to the student to actively engage with the material, put in effort, and apply what they have learned.

  2. Time and Consistency: Tutoring is not a magic solution that instantly guarantees success. Learning takes time, and consistent effort is required over an extended period to achieve mastery. Attending a few tutoring sessions alone may not be sufficient to grasp some difficult topics. Regular and consistent practice is necessary to reinforce what is learned during tutoring sessions.

  3. Subject Difficulty: Some subjects are inherently more challenging, and the level of difficulty can vary from student to student. Tutoring can provide guidance, clarification, and additional resources, but it cannot alter the complexity of certain subjects.

  4. External Factors: External factors such as personal circumstances, distractions, or lack of time management skills can also impact a student's ability to succeed, even with tutoring. If a student is facing significant challenges outside of their academic pursuits, it may be difficult to fully benefit from tutoring alone.
